I was at First Avenue tha night the band was filming some of the shots for this video…I remember the sillouettes behind them. The director talked the crowd into taking off pieces of clothing and throwing it up in the air…I think I see myself in the crowd-blurry nights at First Avenue-good times.
i like it better as talking heads
Didn’t they play at RIBCo once also? I remember hearing it broadcast live on KFMH.
True story. I hadn’t herd these guys in years, & decided to check them out here on Youtube. I was able to get a copy of their music on tape. I play them in my car ALL THE TIME. Crazy, I know. (car CD player fried years ago, – tape deck still holds up), -Ok, so this weekend I’m at Art A Whirl, Nordeast Mpls.,… and I hear this guy talking behind me, with his back to me,… Before I can see his face I’m asking him if he’s Steve Kramer. -He turns around,IT WAS HIM!!! Wow! 2 freaky! Great Band!
ohhhhhyess the drummer is my dad!! yay!
Great song! This band should have made it bigger. Saw them once at Loring Park in MPLS – great show!
Madhatter, Davenport, Iowa about 1984!
The best!
Butt where are they now? Is the lead singer dead? Of AIDS?
Thank god this is still around
Wow qc, I was at the student Union when they played too. It was $5 for their album and I had it signed by all. Actually, my old girlfriend has it now. That was a helluva a night!
my mom hung out with them at first avenu in MPLS,MN =D
I saw this band at the University Of Illinois at Chicago in the late 80′s. The Talking Heads wrote a apology on their liner notes for using this title in one of their songs. My Favorite Wallets song was ” Mother and Daughter”
Saw them first at the University of Iowa in the student Union, then saw them many times at The Madhatter in Davenport as well as RIBCO in Rock Island. I was on the KFMH Halloween booze cruise too as one of The Residents.
When they did the song Too Many Mice, I always loved to dance through the crowd, shaking rubber mice in front of all the women!
Ok, I have an autographed album from these dudes when THEY were in Fargo, ND. Steve Kramer did lead vocals and singed my album – NOT CD, turds. Erik Anderson was drums, Jim Clifford was bass, Rod Gordan was keys, Max Ray was sax and Steve also did accordian and keys.
Isn’t that Rod Gordon, noted driver’s ed instructor, on keyboards?
Oh man what an awesome find. Saw them for the first time at the U of I union for $5. Saw them after that every time they’d come to Iowa City. Saw them a couple times in Minneapolis as well. Last year I contacted a studio that has the masters of all albums and was able to order the whole catalog on a cd. Sending a copy of it to my college sweetheart in Bali. Thanks for posting and it’s great knowing fans are still out there.
the “boooze cruise” on a Friday night…on the Mississipi River, sponsored by KFMH…
I have the album still but would love to find a CD by these guys…
Thanks for posting this up… I saw them play at Carleton College among other places (I went to St. Olaf though.)
My best friend & I saw this on MTV’s old 120 MINUTES in the 80′s–for years NO ONE believed us! Vindicated at last!
Anyone know how to find the disk or download of this version of the song? I know iTunes does not have it.
What a great story, albgpb…I was at the U of M (main campus in Mpls.) at the time and this was a classic at EVERY party. I have the same question as others–the version I’ve heard on an album is different from this one. The version from the video here is far better, plus it’s the one I remember. Anyone have any ideas?
LOL, always loved this video. Steve Kramer is weird.
I saw these guys on the BOOZE CRUISE on Halloween back in about 87, Davenport, IA…what a night! They were great.
I happened to be at First Avenue the night this video was taped; completely by accident I might add. I would be the one in the vertical striped, thick, wool sweater that looks like he does not belong, but hey I signed the release and damn it I stayed. “Take it” remains one of my favorite albums to this day–does anyone have it on CD or know where I can download?
Thanx! It is a demented ‘classic’ from the 1989 Dr. D line-up.
